What is parvo?

Parvovirus is a viral disease that affects dogs, mostly puppies. It affects the intestinal lining and can prevent the animal from absorbing important nutrients. It is transmitted by other dogs' fecal matter and is highly contagious. It takes about 7-10 days from time of exposure to start showing symptoms. Symptoms include: diarrhea, depression, vomiting, lethargy, high fever, and loss of appetite and suppression of white blood cells.

I had a show puppy I bought, was vaccinated three times properly and he got it in 1979. He survived due to the extra-ordinary skill and pure tenacity of the vet. I had a puppy that we breed and was vaccinated twice and got it, she didn't survive. The vet explained that some puppies are born with crippled immune systems and the vaccinations don't take.
